A Healthier Option

The diets of Welsh consumers typically have 11% more fat than recommended levels and not enough fibre. Recent statistics show that more than a quarter of reception year school children in Wales are particularly at risk.

Reduced Calories

Incorporating apple fibre paste into a diverse range of prepared foods can reduce calories by up to 20%, whilst also providing an additional source of satiating fibre and Vitamin C.

Replace portions of fats and sugars

The apple fibre ingredient can reduce up to 40% of fats and up to 20% of sugars in a wide variety of foods.

Easier Healthy Choices

With the apple fibre ingredients, we can eat the healthy version of foods we love without sacrificing taste or texture.

Healthy Weight, Healthy Wales

This is one of the plans, supported by the Welsh Government, aiming to tackle the rising obesity rates in Wales.

Plant-based and Gluten-free

The apple fibre ingredient and syrups are 100% raw apple so are suitable for gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian cooking

Sustainable Welsh Produce

Pennotec is working with Welsh businesses to develop these products. From the apples, to the processing, to the recipes, to the consumer.

Trials and Tastings

This project has involved numerous trials across North Wales since 2018. Thanks to the cooperation and enthusiasm of the local communities and schools the project has been able to confirm that the food made using the new fibre ingredient does not impact texture or taste, making low-calorie alternatives easier and more affordable
